Vertical Machining Center

Vertical machining centers (VMCs) are among the most widely used core machine tools in modern precision manufacturing.  Characterized by their vertically oriented CNC spindle and worktable, they integrate multiple machining processes such as milling, drilling, tapping, and boring into a single machine. Thanks to their stable column structure, efficient automatic tool changing system, and powerful CNC unit, VMCs can achieve high-precision, high-efficiency, and highly automated continuous machining of complex metal or non-metal parts. They are particularly suitable for the production of molds, automotive parts, aerospace structural components, communication equipment housings, and various precision mechanical parts.  VMCs are a cornerstone of unmanned and intelligent manufacturing, providing crucial technical support for improving production efficiency and product quality.

Power Output: An integrated spindle motor drives its high-speed rotation, enabling the mounted tool (such as a milling cutter or drill bit) to perform cutting operations such as milling and drilling on the workpiece;
Tool Clamping: The bottom interface is used for precise clamping of the tool holder, and in conjunction with a tool magazine, it enables automatic tool changing (the "OKADA" in the image is the brand logo of a spindle-related component);
Auxiliary Functions: The blue air tube on the side is the cutting fluid/cooling air line, which cools the tool and workpiece and removes chips during processing, ensuring processing accuracy and efficiency;

Power Distribution: Stable power is distributed to components such as the main spindle, servo motors, and control panel through circuit breakers, relays, and other components;
Signal Control: The PLC (Programmable Logic Controller, the yellow module in the diagram) receives operating instructions and coordinates actions such as spindle start/stop, tool changes, and workbench movement;
Protection Functions: Includes overload protection, short-circuit protection, and other devices to prevent circuit faults from damaging machine tool components;
Wiring Integration: Various cables and signal lines are centrally housed to ensure a neat and easily maintainable circuit.

Worktable Guide Rails: The metal rails (with green protective covers) located beneath the worktable in the image provide high-precision guidance for the X/Y axis movement of the worktable, ensuring smooth movement;
Ball Screw: The metal screw in the middle (with a matching nut) is the core of the transmission system, converting the rotational motion of the servo motor into linear motion of the worktable, achieving micron-level movement accuracy;
Support and Protection: The red components are the support bases for the ball screw, and the side covers prevent metal chips and cutting fluid from contaminating the guide rails and ball screw, extending their service life.

Pneumatic and lubrication control unit

Tool Storage: Features a circular, conical layout (the ring-shaped structure in the diagram), capable of holding multiple types of tools (such as milling cutters and drill bits), meeting the needs of multi-process machining;
Automatic Tool Change: The tool magazine rotates via a motor to bring the target tool to the tool change position, and combined with the vertical movement of the spindle, completes the tool change from "tool magazine to spindle";
Structural Adaptation: The conical design is compact and adapts to the vertical layout of the VMC1160, resulting in simple and efficient tool change operations;

Display screen: Displays processing coordinates, program progress, and machine status (such as alarm information) in real time;
Keypad: Includes function keys, axis movement keys (X/Y/Z), number keys, etc., used for entering programs and adjusting processing parameters;
Knobs/Switches: Adjust the spindle speed and feed rate multiplier, switch between manual/automatic modes, and the red emergency stop button is used to stop the machine in an emergency;

Pneumatic Control Module (Top):
Filter + Pressure Regulator + Lubricator (Three-piece unit): Filters, regulates pressure, and lubricates the compressed air, providing a clean and stable air source for pneumatic components such as tool changers and fixture clamping;
Solenoid Valve: Receives signals from the CNC system to control the opening and closing of the air circuit, enabling automated operation of pneumatic components;
Lubrication Control Module (Bottom):
Electric Lubrication Pump (labeled "GREATFLEX MTO-231"): Delivers lubricating oil to precision transmission components such as guide rails and ball screws at regular intervals and in precise quantities, reducing friction and ensuring motion accuracy and component lifespan.
